Electrical Tips to Help You Wire it Right

The Safest Way to Test Electrical Devices and Identify Electric Wires!

The Non-Contact Electrical Tester
This is a testing tool that I have had in my personal electrical tool pouch for years, and is the first test tool I grab to help identify electrical wiring. It is a Non-contact tester that I use to easily Detect Voltage in Cables, Cords, Circuit Breakers, Lighting Fixtures, Switches, Outlets and Wires. Simply insert the end of the tester into an outlet, lamp socket, or hold the end of the tester against the wire you wish to test. Very handy and easy to use.

The Quickest Way to Check for Faulty Electrical Wiring!

The Plug-In Outlet Tester
This is the first tool I grab to troubleshoot a problem with outlet circuit wiring. This popular tester is also used by most inspectors to test for power and check the polarity of circuit wiring.
It detects probable improper wiring conditions in standard 110-125 VAC outlets Provides 6 probable wiring conditions that are quick and easy to read for ultimate efficiency Lights indicate if wiring is correct and indicator light chart is included Tests standard 3-wire outlets UL Listed Light indicates if wiring is incorrect Very handy and easy to use.

Strip Off Wire Insulation without Nicking and Damaging the Electric Wire!

The Wire Stripper and Wire Cutter
My absolute favorite wire stripping tool that I have had in my personal electrical tool pouch for years, and this is the tool I use to safely strip electrical wires.
This handy tool has multiple uses:
The wire gauges are shown on the side of the tool so you know which slot to use for stripping insulation.
The end of the tool can be used to grip and bend wire which is handy for attaching wire onto the screw terminals of switches and outlets..

The wire stripper will work on both solid and stranded wire. This tool is Very Handy and Easy to Use.

Wiring a Range

Electrical Question: I?m trying to replace a cooktop range. The current range came with the house.

Wire Range

Megan asks:
I?m trying to replace a cooktop range.
The current range came with the house.
I don?t know if it was installed by a professional or the previous homeowners.
The house was built in the 70s; I don?t know how long the range has been there.
The connection was somewhat of a mess with lots of bulky wire and tape (see first pic).
Once we got all that off we were left with three sets of connections (see second pic).
I know the left set goes to the current cooktop and assume the right set goes to the power source.
But I don?t know what the set on the back wall of the cabinet goes to or whether it should be attached to the new cooktop wiring.

    Wiring a Ceiling Light

Electrical Question: In my kitchen in my home i am replacing 12 cfl lights to led can lights all on one switch. I replaced all 12 and only 3 work?

Add to the Wiring Ceiling Light

    Pedro asks:
in my kitchen in my home I am replacing 12 cfl lights to LED can lights all on one switch.
I replaced all 12 and only 3 work?

I noticed the other ones came on but then slowly they all went out.
What I did on inside of lights.
I cut all connections to ballast and connected one of each of the red and blue ballast wires to one black and one neutral.
Then I cut and stripped the connections on the LED screw in adapter and wired it directly to black and white.
    What could be my issue?

I noticed the ballast wires are way smaller size then the main power (black and white wires) could that have something to do with it?

    Any help would help thanks.

Additional Comments: Very easy to navigate.

    Thank you.

Additional Comments: Thanks for any advice you can give. Don?t want to sound like an idiot when / if I call an electrician. Thought I better ask some questions so I know what I am talking about. Same fan, same behaviour in my office. Thx
