Wiring a Main Panel

Electrical Question: My home has a main circuit panel with no main breaker. It has 6 sub breakers (hvac, water heater, stove, drier, etc) for hurricane season i am curious if i can run a generator to all of the other 20a circuits (lights, plugs, etc) safely if i shut off the top 6 breakers that power the sub breakers?

(HVAC, etc.) FYI, the bottom right 50A double pole breaker is for generator.
I plan on getting the circuit panel upgraded to have a main breaker in the next year or two, so this is just for the time being.

    Wiring a Oven

Electrical Question: I am renovating my kitchen and i have removed the stove oven unit and want to replace it with a single oven wall and seprate cook top. The original power for the stove is on 2 40 amp breakers.

    Add to the Wiring Oven

    Jamie asks:
I am renovating my kitchen and I have removed the stove oven unit and want to replace it with a single oven wall and seprate cook top.
The original power for the stove is on 2 40 amp breakers.
according to the spec sheet the oven pulls 15 amps and the cook top has 31 amps.
Would I be able to use the original power and use a junction box to wire both cook top and wall oven or should I just run another power and breaker from the breaker box?

    I appreciate your help.
