Electrical Question: I have removed an old wall oven and am installing a new one.
- The wiring coming through the bottom of the cabinet has no visible junction box.
- I am not sure about the ground wire.
- Right now I have black to black, red to red, white to white with ground tied into it, but I do not have a junction box to connect ground wire with.
I am not sure what to do.

Wiring Connections for a New 220 Volt Oven
Application: Wiring a 220 Volt or 240 Volt Oven.
Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced, Best installed by a Licensed Electrical Contractor or Appliance Technician.
Tools Required: Basic Electricians Pouch Hand Tools, Battery Operated Drill Motor, a support for the oven before inserting it into the cabinet.
Estimated Time: Depends on personal level experience, ability to work with tools and connect 220 volt electrical circuit wiring.
Precaution: Identify the oven circuit at the panel, turn it OFF and Tag it with a Note before making the oven wiring connections.
Notice: When installing an additional 220 volt oven circuit the work should be done according to local and national electrical codes with a permit and be inspected.
How to Wire a New Oven When Replacing an Existing Oven
- It is necessary to have a junction box to make the wiring connection for the new oven.
- A typical 220 volt oven will require a dedicated circuit.
- Identify the existing oven circuit to see if it is either a 3wire or 4wire circuit, and check the amperage rating of the circuit breaker.
- Compare the existing oven circuit to the circuit requirement for the new oven. This information is found in the installation or owners manual that which is provided with the new oven.
- If the existing oven circuit is 3wire then check to see if the new oven is compatible with the existing oven circuit wiring.
- IMPORTANT: Some new ovens may require a new dedicated 220volt 4wire circuit, and they may not be compatible with a 3wire circuit. Be sure to consult the installation manual for specific information and wiring configurations.

I’m trying to install a new Samsung range. The wiring coming from box has white, black and bare copper. The installation manual talks about a red wire but we do not have a red wire. Does the bare wire replace the red wire?

The ground wire should never be left disconnected as it is the most important wire of any electrical circuit. The ability to use a 3wire or 4wire connections will be fully described in the installation manual for your specific oven. I recently moved into a new house. My stove outlet is a 4 pronged outlet. While my stove only has 3 connectors. I bought a 4 pronged cord for the wall, and decided to wrap the green grounding wire with electrical tape, because there isn’t a place to put it. But my question is, I have heard I could just hook up the ground to the neutral. Is this true? Or from the neutral to a bit up above it, is a copper strand going to a screw. Ive heard I could also put it in there, BUT my ground wire wont reach above all the other wire to reach that spot. So should I just connect it to the neutral, or wrap it in electrical tape,and keep it out of the way?

My house was wired in the 80’s. I am purchasing a new oven. The wires out of the junction box are black, white and a bare copper ground wire. It looks like the old oven was wired black to black, white to white and green and red to the bare copper ground wire. Does this sound right? New oven also has black white red and green wires!
