Thanks for your electrical question Linda. Actually that is a very good question. The answer is yes as long as you use the right size wire nut for the size of the wires that you are splicing. I have found that firmly twisting the stripped portion of the wires and then trimming the wires at the top will make a good splice and the wirenut goes on much better. To help you select the right size wirenut just click on the Electrical Wire for the Home link below and you will see the display of wire connectors and the wire sizes and quantity.
Make sure the circuit is OFF!
