Can you please clarify the NEC 210-52 Electrical code for kitchen outlets.
- The NEC 210-52 Code states that receptacles installed in the kitchen to serve counter top surfaces shall be supplied by not less than two separate small appliance branch circuits.
- Does this mean that a circuit needs to have 2 supplies or 2 or more Receptacles per circuit?

- The NEC code requires at least two separate circuits to the kitchen counter top receptacles.
- These receptacle outlets must must have GFCI protection for each circuit.
- The number of receptacle outlets on each circuit is typically determined by the length of the counter top area.
- If the counter top is found on the left and right side of the sink, then one circuit can feed the left side, and the other circuit can feed the right side.
- The layout of the circuits and receptacles will be determined by the exact layout and design of the kitchen.
- The kitchen counter top circuits are separate from additional circuit requirements for items such as the refrigerator, dishwasher and the disposal, etc. , as these items all have their own circuit requirements.
