Light Fixture Safety Labels Can Prevent House Fires
[ad#block]Electrical Question: I installed a small accent flood light connecting it to a dropped ceiling recessed light. The new light fixture’s housing gets fairly hot when in use. I double checked all the wiring and it looks OK. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your electrical question Jess.
How to Make Sure a Light Bulb is Safe for Your Light Fixture
Each year thousands of homes go up in smoke, and many of them could have been prevented if basic safety labels were taken seriously.
- Jess, it sounds like you may be using a lamp that may be too high in watt output and causing the fixture housing to overheat.
- Check the installation instructions or the box that the fixture came in, it should say what size light bulb is safe for this light fixture.
- The socket of the fixture should also have a label that gives the specific size bulb that is safe to use.
- An over heated light fixture can be dangerous and could lead to a fire and also could also cause the internal wire insulation to crack and deteriorate which could create a hazardous condition too.
IMPORTANT
If you don’t take your labels seriously, then at least make sure smoke detectors are installed and working.
