Should a GFCI Outlet Be Warm?
The features and benefits of GFCI outlets and receptacles
Warm GFCI Outlets
[ad#block]Outlet Question: I recently installed a GFCI outlet in my kitchen. The old black live wire was too short so I “Jerry-Rigged” an extension so that I could install the new outlet. I noticed over the pass few days that this outlet feels slightly warm to the touch. I’m not sure if this has to do with the small green light on the new GFCI outlets, or if it should be of concern to me. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Warm GFCI Outlet
- Mark, the warmth that you feel is most likely due to the electronic circuit components within the GFCI outlet including the indicator lamp.
- This should not be anything to be concerned about, however you may want to make sure to make sure to make a solid connection for the extended black wire that you have described.
