How to Install an Outdoor Ceiling Fan
- If the fan is accessible and you are using the pull chain to operate it while being in contact with a grounded surface, or if the ceiling fan, a light fixture or a light fixture outlet is within 5 feet of the inside wall of a hot tub or spa then GFCI protection is required.
- If the fan is totally out of reach and it does not have direct contact with moisture then it should not be a problem.
- This can be treated the same as outside light fixtures, where even though they can be accessible, they are not required to be on a GFCI protected circuit, but within an area such as a hot tub or spa then the location issues will need to be addressed.
