Thanks for your electrical question Patrice. There are two provisions that will allow this. If the wire is rated for 600 volts or if the box has a partition. A similar situation is where a telephone wire is to be installed in a multi-gang box and set side by side with electrical wiring used for a light switch or an outlet. In this case an electrical box should be used which allows a partition to be installed between the two different types of wiring.
Don’t get confused by the 600 volt specification of home electrical wiring in this scenario. This just happens to be the standard rating for this category of wire which is manufactured for use in the United States and Canada.
So how will you know if the wire is rated for 600 volts you may ask? Well the rating is stamped on the wiring ether using ink lettering or the printing is molded into the insulation.
