How to Install Electrical Wiring for a Track Light and Switch |
Wiring Requirements for Track Lights
[ad#block]Track Light: We are going to install a 6-light track lighting with LED accents – it uses GU10 50 watt shielded bulbs. The track lighting will be replacing a ceiling fan/light fixture.
The track light box indicates a min 90?C supply conductors.
What does this mean? The fan/light was installed by an electrician several years ago.
Also, when the switch is replaced, can a dimmer switch be used?
Thank you very much for your input. Marty

How to Install Electrical Wiring for a Track Light and Switch
- The track light requires wiring that has a Minimum 90 C temperature rating to avoid overheated wires due to the total amount of electrical load of the light fixture, and a dimmer switch may be installed as long as it is compatible with the GU10 type LED light bulbs or that the LED bulbs state that they are compatible with the dimmer switch.

A track lighting fixture at my store burned at the point where the track connects to the electrical junction to the point of sparking and smoking. Had I not been present to witness this a fire could have ensued. I checked the connector end and found no loose connections. What is/are the likely cause(s) and could I attempt the repair myself or should I consult a certified electrician?
Jerry
There could be a few different factors that could create a bad connection which can be accelerated by a high watt load on the tack as well. It’s always best to have a professional take a look at the wiring and make any necessary repairs for you to avoid further problems.
