Electrical Question: How do I wire a GFCI Breaker for more than one circuit?
- I wired my kitchen remodel with 12/3 cable so that I could wire every other duplex outlet over the counter with alternating circuits.
- My intent was to use GFCI breakers at the box for these 2 circuits.
- The issue is the common ground and two GFCI breakers.
- Is there a way to share the ground?

How to Wire GFCI Circuits and GFI Outlets
Application: GFCI Circuit Wiring.
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate – Best if wired by a Licensed Electrical Contractor.
Tools Required: Basic Electricians Pouch Hand Tools and a Voltage Tester.
Estimated Time: Depends on personal level experience, ability to work with tools and the number of GFI outlets that will be wired to the GFCI Circuit.
Precaution: Identify the GFCI circuit, turn it OFF and Tag it with a Note before working with the wiring connections.
Notice: Installing additional GFCI Outlet Wiring should be done according to local and national electrical GFCI Codes with a permit and be inspected.
Circuit Wiring for GFCI Breakers
- The ground system of the home is bonded together as one system, so I do not think that this is the issue with this question.
- What I suspect is that the wiring configuration of this multi-wire circuit is not correct.
- Sharing the neutral of a multi-wire GFCI circuit can be tricky if the connections are not maintained and configured properly.
NOTE:
For convenience and less expense you may want to consider installing GFCI Receptacle outlets instead of GFCI Circuit Breakers.
