Switched Outlet Wiring for a Kitchen Garbage Disposal
Electrical Question: I am going to install a garbage disposal outlet (1/2 hot, 1/2 switched) and switch.
Your diagrams for these are very clear, understandable, and I was very pleased to find them BUT, I want to add a GFCI duplex outlet in the 2-gang box with the switch. This GFCI will feed the disposal outlet but will not be switched. How do I incorporate this additional outlet to your disposal diagrams? Or an alternative set up would be to wire the un-switched outlet (in the 2-gang box) so that it will feed through to the disposal/switched + hot outlet under the sink?
Thank you!

How to Wire a Switched and Outlet Wiring for a Garbage Disposal
Application: Wiring a Garbage Disposal Switch and Outlet.
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate – Best if wired by a Licensed Electrical Contractor.
Tools Required: Basic Electricians Pouch Hand Tools and a Voltage Tester.
Estimated Time: Depends on personal level experience, ability to work with tools, the location of the garbage disposal outlet and the avaiable access for the electrical wiring.
Precaution: Identify the outlet circuit, turn it OFF and Tag it with a Note before working with the wiring.
Notice: Installing additional outlet wiring should be done according to local and national electrical codes with a permit and be inspected.
- As per the electrical code, the disposal does not need to be on a GFCI protected outlet because the outlet is not accessible because it is located under the sink.
