Standard Telephones and Digital Phone Jack Wiring
[ad#block]Question: Here’s a goofy question- I just moved into a new house (to me). Got digital phone via cable. If I plug a standard phone into the supplied modem, all is good, phone works. NOW- If I take a standard phone (RJ-11) cable from the modem to a wall plate, I thought that I would be able to use phones elsewhere in the house by plugging them into wall jacks. I get dial tone, but they will not ring on an incoming call! The existing phone wiring is isolated from the street, by the way. Am I reversing polarity by back feeding this way, or ?

Thanks for your electrical question Jon.
Jon, check with the type of digital service you have and which phones and wiring are compatible with that system. Check out my VOIP Telephones page to see alternate connections that may help.
