Means of Disconnect for an Air Conditioner Circuit
[ad#block]Air Conditioner Question: Will the national electric code allow me to hard wire a portable air conditioning unit? The unit has been installed in the wall and I would like to do away with the power cord if possible.The unit is a 220 volt Westpoint window air conditioning unit.

Circuit Wiring for a Air Window Conditioner
- Mike, the electrical code requires that a means of disconnect at the location of the air conditioner which in this case could be either an approved cord and receptacle or a disconnect switch. So if the circuit for the air conditioner was installed into conduit then a disconnect switch will be required at the air conditioner unit to provide a way to turn the unit off when servicing is required.
