[ad#block]Electrical Question: My son blew the power in his room when he plugged in a computer. My husband used an electrical meter that showed there was power coming from the outlet wires, so he figured it was the outlet itself and replaced it. All the wires looked good. after putting in a new outlet, there is still no power even though the electrical meter shows positive for power. It should work, but when we plug in electrical devices they do not turn on, as if there is no power still. What else could be wrong?

Testing Outlet Electrical Wiring
- Some electrical testers only show if voltage is present at the wall outlet of device, however we know that AC electricity does not work with only one wire.
- AC electricity requires both the hot and the neutral wire in order for the circuit to work.
- When testing an outlet it is best to use a 2-wire tester or a plug-in circuit analyzer which will produce a display of three lights which will reveal the condition of the electrical circuit at the outlet.
- Many times there may be a short with either the black or the white wire at the outlet connection or somewhere else in the circuit.
- My troubleshooting tips will be helpful for locating the sources of the problem.
