Bad Rocker Switches that Need Replacing
[ad#block]Electrical Question: I am renting a home built in 1987. Some of the original wall light rocker switches don’t come on well. I have to rock them a couple of times before they ‘catch’. Sometimes I tap them on the top section after they are is the on position, and this works too.
Does this mean I have a bad connection or bad switch? If there is a risk of fire I can immediately tell the landlord. Thanks! Susie

How to Replace Rocker Style Light Switches
- Susie, the problem with the rocker switches that you are describing is due to the contacts or internal parts of that are wearing out inside the rocker switch.
- Typically this does not present a fire hazard unless you see a lot of arcing.
- In any case I would encourage you to contact your landlord and bring this condition to their attention so they can arrange for the rocker switches to be replaced.
