How to Repair Lost Power to a Ceiling Light Fixture
[ad#block]Electrical Question: I am trying to figure out why my downstairs ceiling light went out. I have power going into the switch and power going to the light. There are 3 white wires that go into a butt connector every time I move them there’s an arc and the power goes off downstairs but when i move them back it comes back on. How do I fix the short?

Repairing a Wiring Splice
- Kenneth, butt splice connectors or end to end connectors do not work well for electrical connections involving solid wire, which is found in most home electrical circuit wiring.
- When it is found that the butt-splice connector has become faulty then the circuit will need to be identified and shut off, and the affected splice will need to be removed and replaced with a screw on type wire nut connector.
- When splices become faulty it can affect the light fixture and other areas of the branch circuit wiring as well.
- A faulty electrical wiring splice can cause overheating and sparking which can eventually create a hazardous condition due to a burnt connection which should be repaired right away.
- Electrical repairs such as this are best performed by a qualified licensed electrician.
