Recessed Lighting Project
Electrical Question:We are starting to remodel our old house and after we took down a couple of walls finally we are going to have a big open living room. I moved here from Italy one year ago, so I don’t have a lot of experience with 110Volt wiring and local codes.
- We want to install 8 recessed lights on this room (the size of the room is 25 x 14 x 8), just we are not sure about the kind of bulb to use.
- Personally I really like the halogen for the clear light that they emitted, just someone says that they get to hot.
- I was thinking to use the Commercial Electric 4 in. Non-IC Remodel GU10 Recessed Lighting Kit (K20) from Home Depot all connect to 3 dimmer switches and a 15 Amp breaker. Any suggestion? Thank you

Planning and Installing Recessed Lighting
- Roberto, the process of installing new lighting should always begin with your local building department or authority who may have specific energy requirements for your lighting project.
- Based on this information you may proceed to selecting the type of lighting that you would like.
- The type of bulb will be determined by the type of light fixture that you select.
- Recessed can lights have a number of different lamps or bulbs that may be installed for various types and sizes for the recessed light fixture that you select.
Considerations When Installing Recessed Lighting Fixtures
- Factors for the type of light fixture that you select may be determined by the space where the recessed light fixture cans will be installed and the amount and type of insulation.
- Once the type of light fixtures and lamps have been established then the electrical circuit load requirement can be determined for your lighting project.
