Electrical Question from Susan about Circuit Breaker
[ad#block]Question: I recently installed 2 ceiling fans in my house and now the breaker for that part of the house keeps tripping. Could it be overpowered and do I need to replace the breaker with one that has higher amps?

Dave’s Reply:
Thanks for your electrical question Susan.
NEVER replace a circuit breaker with a larger size. This will overheat the circuit wiring and could potentially cause a house fire!
Before adding anything to an existing circuit it should be tested to see if there is available capacity to prevent overloading the circuit. If the circuit trips off immediately then this could be a short in the circuit wiring or components. If the circuit trips after the ceiling fans have been running for a while or after turning on the ceiling fan lights then it is most likely an overloaded circuit condition which means that a different circuit with available capacity must be found or a new circuit may need to be installed.
