Electrical Question: My motion detector light stopped working. How can I test the light switch to see if it is bad?
- My motion detector light stopped working. I ordered a new Patriot double LED motion detector light assembly. Installed unit, worked one night then quick working.
- There is a switch inside my home for power. Is there power to both sides of this switch or power on one side and ground on the other? I put a meter to both sides of the switch and got no reading.Thank you for your help.

Testing a Motion Detector Light Switch
When an electrician tests a switch for voltage, the electrical test leads should be done with one test lead to the ground wire or grounded portion of the switch box, and one test lead to one screw terminal of the switch, one at a time while operating the switch.
A Non-Contact tester may also be used instead of a voltage tester. The tip of the non-contact tester is typically held by each wire of the switch to check for voltage.
