I replaced a chandelier (3 60-watt bulbs) controlled by 2 3-way switches. I would like to install one 3-way dimmer (600W) and one 3-way switch. The fixture installation instructions specified that dimmer switches were not to be used with the fixture.
Why would the manufacturer disallow dimmer switches?
Would installing a dimmer be ill-advised?

Bill, What kind or type of light bulbs are being used, are they standard incandescent bulbs? If so I would contact the fixture company and inquire as to why there should not be a dimmer switch installed.
