Question: WHEN INSTALLING WIRING FOR AN OUTSIDE HOT TUB AM I REQUIRED BY CODE TO INSTALL A GFCI IN BOTH THE INDOOR PANEL TO PROTECT THE WIRING AND IN THE DISCONNECT 3 METERS FROM THE HOT TUB OR IS JUST ONE IN THE MAIN PANEL SUFFICIENT
Additional Comments: I HAVE BEEN EMPLOYED ALL MY WORKING LIFE INSTALLING MAINLY EXPLOSIVE PROOF EQUIPMENT IN HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS SO IT IS GOOD TO HAVE AN EXCELLENT REFERENCE SITE LIKE YOURS WHEN DOING OTHER ONE OFF JOBS(FOR MY DAUGHTER)
Thanks for your electrical question and encouraging comments Derek.Â The GFCI Protection is typically installed at the location of the Hot Tub . This makes it convenient for testing. A standard circuit breaker is fine for protecting the circuit from the source panel to the location of the GFCI disconnect at the hot tub.
Explosion proof work is really something, I just installed some the other day. I’m glad this website is helping electricians as well.Â I know there are a lot of commercial and industrial electricians who are working at the residential level and I know the adjustments that these people will be going through.Â Residential work is more tedious compared to industrial.Â I actually miss working in a large industrial facility.
