Electrical Junction Boxes
Electrical Question: What is the purpose of a junction box?
- Since we don’t have an interior breaker box we are connecting to the service panel outside which has plenty of space for additional breakers.
- I know that we can add more wiring, and then from a junction box can I redirect more lines to other rooms that do not have enough wall outlets?
This home electrical wiring question came from: Danny, a Homeowner from Beeville, Texas.

How to Select the Right Junction Box for your Electrical Wiring Project
There are several different types of electrical junction boxes, and there will be several different definitions of what a junction box is. An electrical junction box, in the application is where there is a junction of electrical wiring. This is also know as an electrical splice, or splice box. However the term junction box may also be used when someone is talking about an outlet box, simply because there are more than one set of electrical wire or cables that are found at this location. The type and size of the electrical junction box will depend on the application and what it will be used for and where it will be installed.
