Electrical Question: I’m trying to replace a kitchen outlet for a GFCI one. How do I hook up the new GFCI outlet?
I’m trying to replace a kitchen outlet for a GFCI one. When I pull put the old one it has no ground wire, 2 red wires( one is the hot) and a uncut white (neutral wire ) with some of the sheathing taken off and bent making a loop and connected to the side of the old outlet. How do I hook up the new GFCI outlet? Thanks.

Electrical Tools Required: Basic Electricians Pouch Hand Tools, Voltage Tester, and appropriate Safety Gear.
Estimated Time: Depends on the personal level experience, ability to work with tools, install electrical circuit wiring, and the available access to the project area.
Electrical Safety: Identify the electrical power source to the , turn it OFF and Tag with a Note before working with the electrical wiring.

- Adriel, from the information you have provided, the GFCI outlet may be installed and provide ground fault protection even if there is not a ground wire present, however make sure the wiring connections to the GFCI outlet are correct, especially the orientation of the wiring to the LINE and LOAD of the GFCI outlet. The existing wiring should be tested and verified to make sure the connections are correct.
