Help with Dimmer Switch Wiring

I have a outlet coming into the second sconce as Black (hot) and White coming into the second sconce and I have trouble understanding where to tie what. I spoke to a Home Depot electrician and they said tie white to white, Red to the Black on the sconce and the Black (hot) to the outlet along with the black from the first sconce; Can you provide guidance. [ad#block]Question: Took out old med cabinet/mirror put in new header closed up and now I’m wiring the two new sconces.
Please see attachment; I have an exhaust timer and light dimmer the dimmer has Black, White, and Red wiring out to the first sconces , they tie to another set of Black, White, and Red and go out to the second sconces.
Exhaust Timer works, lights power up but the dimmer switch does not light up, can’t switch lights on or off or fade.
