Wiring a Disposal and Light Switch
[ad#block] Electrical Question: What types of switches are available for a garbage disposal?
- I have a normal size electric wall switch that has two controls – one “toggle” is for the garbage disposal, the other is for a set of lights that I want to dim.
- Do they make such a switch in a normal wall plate size?
- It is in granite, so the switch size is standard?

How to Wire Switches for a Light and Garbage Disposal
- Yes, either Leviton or Lutron will have a switch that will take care of your application.
- Another option would be to purchase an Insinkerator switch package.
- The Insinkerator is a unit that is installed under the sink and plugs into the non-switched outlet and has a pneumatic push button switch that is mounted into an opening in the top of the sink, the same as the dishwasher vent or optional hose unit. The Insinkerator has a receptacle outlet for the disposal to be plugged into.
