Thanks for your electrical question Chuck.
Wiring Two Switches for Ceiling Fans
Chuck, to wire the second ceiling fan separately from the first ceiling fan the power source must be obtained from before the first ceiling fan switch, or obtain a separate power source for the second ceiling fan.

The Safest Way to Test Electrical Devices and Identify Electric Wires! The Non-Contact Electrical TesterThis is a testing tool that I have had in my personal electrical tool pouch for years, and is the first test tool I grab to help identify electrical wiring. It is a Non-contact tester that I use to easily Detect Voltage in Cables, Cords, Circuit Breakers, Lighting Fixtures, Switches, Outlets and Wires. I have a ceiling fan I want to install in a stairwell & I need a remote as it will be hard to reach. the fixture box inn the stairwell is connected to a 3 way switch that has a switch at the top of the stairs & at the bottom. I have purchased an aftermarket Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan remote Wall Control. The local building code says that the light in a stairway must be on a 3 way switch that controls the light at the top, and the bottom of the stairs. Could I get a second wall remote for the bottom of the stairs to control the same fan so it meets code? How do you set that up?
Hi Len,
You could get a second remote control for the ceiling fan and attach each remote control at the ends of the stairwell. The remote controls have dip switches which are typically located inside the 9 volt battery compartment. The dip switches should all have the same settings as the dip switches of the control module that is wired up at the ceiling fan. You can see more about dip switch settings at the ceiling fan remote control page.
