Wiring Diagrams for Four Way and Three Way Switches
[ad#block] Home Electrical Question: I am having a senior moment. Does a three way switch connect the controls in 2 locations? Does a four way switch connect the controls in three locations? I’m preparing a lighting plan and cannot remember if this is the correct way to label the switching.
Thank you in advance!

Four Way and Three Way Switch Wiring Diagrams
Yes Amy, Here’s how it works:
- Two three way switches will control lighting from two locations and two three way switches with a four way switch will control lights from three locations.
- If you desire to control lighting from more that 3 locations then you may install any number of four way switches along with two three way switches as long as the wiring is installed correctly and the switches are wired accordingly.
