Outlet for a Bathroom
Electrical Question: I want to add an outlet to a bathroom, where do I connect the new outlet?
I wanted to add an outlet to a bathroom, and I have everything down to the studs.
The current set up is as follows:
A double switch set up, one for the ceiling light one for the light above the mirror.
The wiring runs to an outlet.
Then to the above mirror light.
Where do I connect the new outlet?
I assume the outlet box, but it looks a little crowded in there?
This electrical question came from: James, who is a Handyman from Somers, New York.
Dave’s Reply:
Thanks for your electrical question James.
How to Add a Electric Outlet to a Bathroom
When there is an existing outlet, the electrical wiring which is located at the existing outlet may be extended to the desired location for the new outlet.
If an outlet does not exist then a new dedicated circuit must be installed to the desired outlet location.
The new outlet must be GFCI protected and installed with a permit according to codes and inspected.
For best results located a licensed electrical contractor who is best equipped to install your bathroom electrical outlet.
