Checking Pool Pump Electric Timer Circuit Wiring
[ad#block]Electrical Question: I have a Pool pump that is not working. I took voltage readings at the breaker and both hot legs read 124 volts. Then I took readings at the timer where one leg 124 volts other leg 35 volts. I suspect water or moisture in the conduit from the breaker panel to pool timer. It is an underground conduit.

  1. Dave Rongey says:

    Hi George,
If the pool pump has power to the motor and the motor is not working then a capacitor may need to be replaced or the pump motor may be bad and need to be replaced. Turn the power to the pump off, wait a few minutes, then turn the power back on and see if the motor is trying to start, if it is but it does not come up to full speed then it is most likely the start capacitor that need to be replaced. Most electric motors are protected by a thermal cut out switch which protects the motor from over heating, and in such cases like this. The pump should be controlled by a time clock to schedule the operation of the pump.
    I hope this helps.

My pool pump does not start. I checked the power and have it going into the pump. Is there a relay I need to check? Thanks and please send a picture of what I would look for.
