- I am having a home built, and a section of about 30 feet of about 10-15 wires were cut out of the basement rafters.
- The contractor had the electricians repair it and they used junction boxes.
- Three junction boxes at one end and seven at the breaker box location.
- I wonder if this is a safe way to do the repair.
- They also replaced the huge wire to the geo-thermo furnace except now it is 2 wires (they look like the wire for a drier).

Safe Practices for Splicing Electrical Wiring
The process of splicing electrical wires is to safely join the wires in a junction box using approved methods.
- Splices must be made in approved junction boxes in compliance with the NEC national Electrical Code.
- The junction boxes must be large enough to contain the number of wires and size of the spliced wires.
- The junction boxes must be accessible.
- The spiced wire must match the same size and type of wire, or an equivalent and acceptable type according to code.
- Approved wire connectors must be used for the splices.
- Anti corrosion ointment inhibitor must be used when splicing aluminum wire.
- Metallic junction boxes must be bonded or grounded to the circuit ground wire.
- The junction boxes must be covered with the approved box cover.
