[ad#block]Electrical Question: I would like to switch my basement utility light fixture. The Power from 3-wire with two red and one white to light. Another 3 wire going out of box not connected to anything (protected). Can I switch the unconnected 3-wire. I would also like to put another light in the circuit and use one switch for both lights.

Thanks for your electrical question Scott.
How to Wire Light Switches and Connect Light Fixture Wiring
- Light switches can be added to existing fixtures once the wiring is identified.
- The wiring must be verified to understand the use for each wire that is found within the light fixture circuit.
- Often a white wire is used for switching the power from light switch and not for the neutral as it would appear.
- This is why it is important to understand the circuit wiring with the help of a voltage tester or an ohm meter.
