Is Your Ceiling Fan a Lemon?
Watch out for defective or damaged ceiling fans that some stores resell – There is a very good possibility that you bought a damaged ceiling fan.
Ceiling Fans – Beware of Purchasing Open Containers!
[ad#block]Ceiling Fan Question: I’ve been able to change out a defective 3-wire chain pull switch, but I’ve not been able to dig into the ceiling fan enough to figure out how to stop the fan (the light portion of the fan fixture) from wobbling. I’m afraid to spin the lights portion, like you would be tightening up a screw, for fear of loosening some wires.
I hope my 2 photos help.
(1) the entire fixture and
(2), the point where the ceiling fan wobbles – just above the pull chain point.

Additional Comments: So far it’s great – hope you can offer me some good advice on how to fix – I’m afraid my fan is going to fall..
Thanks for your ceiling fan question Richard.
Richard, you may have an internal part that has come loose and is causing the ceiling fan wobble.
There is a very good possibility that you bought a damaged ceiling fan. I have run into this so many times that I finally told my clients that I refused to hang their ceiling fan if the box was already opened before they purchased it from the store. I suspect that there are some damaged ceiling fans that are returned to the stores and put right back on the shelf for some one else to purchase.
The store clerks will never know the difference, and it usually is unknown until after you purchase one and have spent the time to install it only to find out that the darn thing is damaged or defective, and then you have to spend all that time taking it down, getting a replacement and reinstalling it. So – my advise is never purchase a ceiling fan where the original packaging shows that it has been opened.
