Outlet Locations and Air Conditioning Ducts
[ad#block]Electrical Repair Question: I’m trying to find out what the minimum distance an electrical outlet has to be from air conditioner ducting. I’m mounting a projector that is near one of my air conditioner duct outlets. I need to run power to the projector but don’t know how far away the receptacle box has to be from the duct work. Also, would this have to be an GFCI outlet?

Thanks for your electrical repairs question David.
Hi David, glad to hear you enjoy the website! Dave, I’m not aware of any codes that have to do with mounting outlets near air conditioner ducts unless the outlet power would supply a heat producing device that may be a fire hazard. There are codes that restrict types of electrical wiring from being installed inside of air conditioning ducts but I don’t think this does not apply to your project. The outlet would need to be a GFI if this is a basement type area. (See the links below)
