Making Underground Cable Splices Accessible
[ad#block]Question: I hit an 2″ conduit that we could not locate with a trencher, breaking the conduit and pulled about 40′ of 3/0 THHW coated neutral wire out of the conduit. Can I pull a new length of 3/0 into the conduit and splice it to the undamaged portion of cable. Can I then install an expansion sleeve over the splice point to provide conduit continuity.

David, if you make a splice with the cable it should be made accessible. It would be best to pull in the new cable and install a christy box in the location of the splice.
