How a Home Security System is Set Up
[ad#block]Electrical Question: I bought some 5V Foscam Surveillance Cameras recently and had them installed. We tested the cameras and they were working properly when they were plugged in with original adapters. After they installed them, only 1 is working. I am pretty sure it is because they had to extend the power cord to the areas where the cameras are mounted. We tested them again, and when they are plugged in with an original adapter they work. Currently, the one camera that is working, is the one closest to the power supply. They people who installed them said that they tested the volts at the cameras and were getting 5v before the cameras were turned on. I have my doubts, but anyways, do you have suggestions as to how to solve this problem?

Surveillance Camera Power Supply
Kerry, each surveillance camera may be requiring its own separate power supply, and may to function if the power supply is shared by more than one surveillance camera. A power supply voltage level may drop down when the device is actually attached to the power supply, so the power supply must be rated to provide enough power for the connected device. To verify this you should consult the owners manual or the installation manual which came with the surveillance cameras. These manuals and all of the documentation should have been left with you, and the system should have been fully tested and functional by the installing security system contractor.
