Electrical Voltage Regulator Output For A Windmill Project

[ad#block]Question: On the streets of Africa trying to buy a used alternator for a community windmill project. I need to test if the voltage regulator is working. All I have available is a battery and a voltmeter. So, if I hook up the alternator to the battery, the output reading should not be the same as the battery, correct? The Voltage Regulator should be regulating the field voltage so the output should be between .1 and 2V? Please Help!!
Thanks for your electrical question Joe. If your our battery is 12 volts then the alternator should have an output of between 13.5 and 14.8 volts.
