Can one side of a circuit breaker go bad?

    • Dave Rongey says:

      Hi Bill,
Yes – one side of a two pole circuit breaker can go bad. This could be due to a bad connection of the circuit breaker to the panel buss, and it may also be due to an unbalanced load with the circuit where the bad side of the breaker has sustained high amounts of heat which can cause wear on the breaker contact. The circuit should be tested for possible problems, and the connected load should be checked as well.
