Electric Freezer Circuit Problem

[ad#block]Question: We woke up today to our freezer being defrosted and had to throw all the food away. It is in our garage and there is a trip switch on another outlet that controls the freezer and a outlet on my back porch. My husband, who knows absolutely nothing about this, thinks the water inside the freezer is causing the switch to trip. Every time we press it, it trips the switch again. My father and I think it is a short in the electrical work. We have had trouble with this in the past but mostly at Xmas with all the lights up. We have had a new breaker put in for the lights and outlets. And this hasn’t happened in over a year. It has also never trip the switch so many times. So my question is could it be the electrical or the freezer. Also my dad said if it is electrical it could catch on fire. Is this true? Thanks in advance for your help.
