Thanks for your electrical question Ryan. The Type A Bulb is the most standard size, that being a larger base than a Type B. The Type B is also known as a Candelabra base or a Chandelier Type Lamp because it is most commonly used in chandelier fixtures. That being the case, there are socket adapters to allow a Type B Lamp to be used in a Type A Socket, but not for a Type A bulb to be used in a Type B Socket.

Can I use a 40W B10 light bulb on a 40watt type a lamp? Is it safe, even if I make sure the light bulbs aren’t upside down?
Hi Aaron,
Switching from a small type-b socket to a larger type-a socket is not advisable, unless the light fixture has adequate air space clearances to avoid heat exposure to any parts of the light fixture that may cause damage or fire danger. The watt output size of the light bulb must always be limited to the original size of the light fixture as stated by the manufacture of light fixture, or as labeled on the light fixture.
To make sure the conversion would be safe it would be best to contact the manufacturer of the light fixture and discuss the conversion with them before making the change.
