Electrical Question from Mike about Hot Tub Wiring
Background: Mike, a Electrician from Pittsburgh, PA
[ad#block]Question: Homeowner wants me to install a 220V hot tub. She said the run is about 220 feet, and I did not have to drill holes as there is a duct. I have been working as an electrician for the past three years, and I know you can’t do a run inside a duct, you can tun through a cold air return, but as far as i know, you cannot run the length of a duct. Also, for the 220, should I use 6/3 with an insulated ground?

Thanks for your electrical question Mike.
See:Â NEC 300.22 Wiring in Ducts, Plenums, and Other Air-Handling Spaces.
The wire size must be increased due to the length of the run.
The wire MUST be Copper.
