Basic Home Electrical Wiring by Example

The dryer is downstairs, however the main electrical panel (fuse box location where power comes into the house) is in the left corner of the garage. Perhaps I could get an electrician to install a 220 outlet from the main box to near the treadmill? If that is the idea, then do you happen to know how much that ‘should’ cost?

[ad#block]The cost to have the circuit installed will depend on a few factors:
Access to the panel – are the walls sheet rocked – finished off, or are they open and accessible? If the walls are finished off you have a few choices –
one would be to open up the sheet rock to allow access, or even better –
penetrate into the garage area and run surface conduit to the area you would like to set the treadmill.

Another factor is the room inside the panel, amperage of the panel and the availability of space to accommodate a two-pole breaker.
The size of the wire – 12/2 Romex is not a big expense – the most expensive part of the job is labor, and I’m not sure what the hourly rates are in your area.

Another option is to just install a receptacle inside the garage opposite the panel – IF your cord will be long enough from where you would like it.
