Wiring a 24 Hour Time Switch for Outdoor Lights

Question: Trying to install a GE Model 15070 24 Hour Timer Switch for my elderly mother. Here’s the situation: The wall box contains a single pole switch to operate the indoor hall light, and it contained a faulty timer switch which I have removed and I am trying to install new timer switch Model#15070. One set of wires coming into the box contains (1 black wire and 1 white wire-I assume this is the load. The other set of wires contains (1 red, 1 white, and 1 black wire-I assume this is the line). The single pole switch currently in the wall has the black wire from the “load” pigtailed and the red wire from the “line” goes to the other terminal on the single pole switch. I know the red wire goes to the indoor light fixture. I simply want to install the GE #15070 switch into the wall box so she can set the timer to control the outdoor lights. I am stuck. The GE #15070 contains 1 black wire “line”, 1 red wire “load”, and 1 green wire ground.

Thanks for your electrical question Paul.
Paul, don’t get confused by the colors of the wires on the old switch or the new time switch. What you need to do is to identify the wire that supplies the power which is the Line, and the wire that leads out to the outdoor light fixture which is the Load. Once you have those two wire identified then just connect them to the Line and Load of the 24 hour time switch.
