Wiring a Telephone System

Telephone Wiring Question: I have a small business with 3-phone lines coming in. I am changing out the phones because the main circuit box makes phones go wacky. There are cables with 4-pairs (blue/green/orange/brown) Blues go to 4 phones from box to box, the blue wire pairs go to 1 term (1st line) Orange to 2nd term (2nd phone line) the green wire pairs go to the 3rd terminal (3rd phone line. How do I wire this setup to bypass this box. There are RCA 4 line phones.

Identifying and Rewiring Telephone System Equipment
Many business telephone systems use proprietary telephone equipment. Typically the telephone service from the local telephone company comes into a main box from the local CO or Central Office. From there the phone service is connected to the in-house phone system, starting with a main system terminal box. Many of these phone systems are proprietary and require using only their specific telephones which may be connected to the system. The telephone system typically have special functions that are compatible with the system.

When a Telephone System is Not Working
If the telephone system is not functioning properly then there may be a problem with the telephone system, and not the telephone, so replacing telephones may not solve the problem, in fact replacing a proprietary telephone with a non-compatible telephone may damage the equipment or not work at all.

Troubleshoot The Telephone System Problem
If the telephones are not working right then this is an indication that the system has a problem and the system equipment and wiring should be looked at to see where the problem really is, and it may be something really simple, such as a wiring problem in the office area where telephone cables may have been damaged.

Replacing a Business Telephone System
If a business telephone system needs to be replaced then all of the proprietary equipment must be removed and replaced with the new system in order to maintain system compatibility. The telephone system cables and wiring assignments will need to be identified and reassigned as needed for the application. Consult the telephone system documentation for complete instructions.
