Electrical Requirements for a Journeyman in Pennsylvania
Background: Jesse , a Student from Harrisburg, PA

Question: Do you need to take the journeyman test in order to be a journeyman in the state of Pennsylvania? Could you just join an apprentice and then work for 4 years and then they give you that position.

Dave’s Reply:
Thanks for your electrical question Jesse .
To my knowledge the state of  Pennsylvania does not require the registration, certification or license of contractors or their employees that are working in the construction industry. I would assume however that if you are working in an electrical union then there would be requirements to be qualified at the journeyman level including a documented history of apprenticeship. Working in a non-union capacity may have different requirements.
